The Macallan Ruby was the top of the 1824 range but has now been discontinued. It has been matured solely in 1st Fill Spanish Oak casks and some PX sherry casks are used. The oldest whisky in this bottle is 26 years old. An absolutely stunning dram for a discerning whisky drinker. 92. 5 points Jim Murray's Whisky Bible Nose: Treacle tart, creamy and nutty sherry wood, red berries, mixed peel, dried fruit and some cherry wine notes. Palate: Spiced nuts, sweet spice, buttery oak, lots of chewy sherry wood, praline, christmas cake, treacle tart, figs, dates and dark honey. Finish: Aromatic oak, soft ginger spice, orange marmalade, rich chocolate truffles and lasting sherry wood sweetness. The core range replacement for the 18 year old that has almost become as highly sought after as its aged counterpart.
