Wine maker notes
?Chateau de Chambert? is the historic wine of the chateau (85% Malbec, 15% Merlot) and represents 100 000 to 150 000 bottles, depending on the vintage. It is always produced biodynamically. This wine is aged 12 months in estate cellar for a perfect balance between the fruit, the silky tannins and the delicate and spicy french oak. It can easily be kept 15 to 20 years. Its nose is a delicate blend of cassis, plums, underbrush and spices. In the mouth, it shows the concentration and complexity of the great terroir wines from the slopes of Chambert. AOC Cahors).

Producer
X century The oldest texts found relating to Chambert?s vineyard date from 1100! XIII century The Chambert domain and its vineyards were managed from a fortified farm called ?den?, located on the present site of the castle. From 1350, the land belonged to a succession oflords of Floressas: Beynac, Lagorse-Limoges and marquis Brachet de Peyrusse. XVIII century In 1690 Mademoiselle de La Valette became the owner of the domain until 1810 when the Lathese family, ennobled bourgeois, cultivated this very important area. The wine was renowned in France, England and Russia. In the nineteenth century, with significant improvements in navigation on the Lot (canals, locks, towpaths, ?holds? . . ), Chateau Chambert further enhanced its reputation. In 1870 the Bataille family succeeded the Latheze family as owners. One son became general. Phylloxera in 1877 and the death of General Bataille at the Vosges front in 1914, gradually destroyed little by little the vineyard of over 300 hectares. It was not until 1973 that Marc Delgoulet, a vintner from Correze, revived this vineyard by producing a well-regarded wine as good as before. He selected the best parcels with the best exposure. He replanted by selecting rootstocks and varieties based on exposure and soil characteristics. In 1978 the first vintage of Chambert was a gold medalist in national competitions at Macon and Bourg-en-Blaye. In 1994 his son Joel took over the reins of the family business. Today the vineyard property, owned by Philippe LEJEUNE, covers about 65ha. Architectural Heritage The chateau is in the style of Viollet-le-Duc and was finished in 1873 on the foundations of a small fortified castle of the 16th century. Construction also included a fortification wall and a garden park on a gentle slope extending down from the wall. The building was three quarters destroyed by fire in 1886. It was rebuilt keeping the remaining central portion. Two round towers in the style of the 16th century castle were rebuilt in 1985.
