Lagavulin - Feis Ile 2017 16 year old Whisky 70CL
8054-od
$1570.99 price per bottle

A 16 year old release matured in Moscatel sweet wine casks and limited to just 6000 bottles for the 2017 Feis Ile festival. Nose: Ripe orchard fruits with a deep sooty and white pepper note, pecan pie with earthy digestive biscuit base, mossy peat, pudding wine grapes and sultana with a rock pool and charred seaweed note. Some coal tar and dark chocolate creep in along with some lime pickle and white nougart. Water brings out a more floral influence but no mistaking this is one of the most elegant noses of any Islay let alone Lagavulin in many a year. Palate: Peppery lime pickle, more ripe orchard fruits and pudding wine (botrytis) like influence. Waxy citrus and some chilli flake and ginger in runny honey. A sweeter peat smoke and some late charred seaweed note. Finish: Black and white pepper on toffee peacan pie, ripe apricot and sweet pudding wine grapes. Sweet tarry caol tar smoke (honey on bbq soot) spicy ginger and chocolate limes. Long! A stunning Lagavulin with the Moscatel wine casks giving this release a sweeter and more elegant edge with the peppery spice and grapey notes to the fore. Lagavulin pudding malt anyone?
