The first limited release of 2016 from lagavulin to celebrate the distilleries 200th anniversary and what glorious complexity for an 8 year old that many a distillery would love at 20 years old. Nose: fresh and inviting ashy smoke, oysters in shell with lemon juice and salt, capsicum, seaweed flakes, sourdough bread, white pepper, smoked cream soda pop, green banana, wild fennel and heather. Palate: vibrant, vegetal and spicy to begin with green peppers, fennel and seaweed then sweet and creamy with sooty white pepper ashy smoke developing into oily, salty,soy sauce, lime juice over shellfish. Finish: Wasabi like heat with notes of anise, salted limes, smoked vanilla, sourdough bread, green peppers and sooty poached pears.
