Founded in 1887 in the Lot district, just east of Bordeaux, the Georges Vigouroux Company has been a major force in the promotion of the wines and food products of the southwest of France. They have earned a particularly strong reputation as producers of Malbec. Château de Haute-Serre is Georges Vigouroux’s flagship property, now under the direction of his son, Bertrand-Gabriel Vigouroux. This Lucter cuvee is a new addition to the chateau’s lineup. Lucter, named for a Gallic chief who dared to defy Julius Caesar, is 100% Malbec, but with a wrinkle: it is made using whole-bunch fermentation and very gentle extraction. The result is a velvety soft version of Malbec, violets and blackberries to the fore, with relatively tame tannins.
