This Slovenian pet nat is not to be missed! A side project from winemaker Bojan Kobal (the man behind the country's Pullus wines), this bubbly is made from Blaufrankisch (or Modra Frankinja as it is known here). At first glance, seeing the grape in Slovenia may be a bit of a head scratcher, but this northeast corner of the country actually borders Austria's Burgenland where the grape is ubiquitous. It is even thought the grape may be native to Bojan's side of the border! The nose features fleshy peach dancing around thyme, mint , cornflakes and a mild dose of funk. The wine follows up with a moussy, creamy texture with intense blueberry, peach and raspberry. Crushed raspberries move to the forefront on the gentle finish. Many pet nats out there aim to be this well made, but not many come close!
