Plum liqueur (or umeshu in Japanese) is produced by steeping Japanese ume plums in alcohol and sugar until the plum has permeated the alcohol. This combination of ingredients gives umeshu an intense sweet and sour taste. Umeshu is always best fresh, but it can be enjoyed at room temperature, over ice, or with other drinks for a fruity cocktail.
